Oxygen

Speaker: Riccardo Iaconelli

Oxygen is KDE 4 signature user interface created by a small team of designers and developers. The project's main goal is to provide a modern and appealing, consistent and usable vest to all the wonderful technologies behind KDE. The Oxygen team strongly believes that a good product is only as good as it's beautiful.

Thus far Oxygen team has prepared the basics desktop theme for 4.0 release of KDE. This basic theme consists of many different components: icon theme, widget style, window decoration theme, sound theme, cursor theme and wallpapers.

The future goal of Oxygen is to unify all the visual aspects of KDE desktop, and to develop a strong UI paradigm that would hold true for the years to come. Another important goal of the project is to grow the team of designers, and to define responsive and versatile workflow guidelines of interaction between developers, designers and usability experts.

[Riccardo Iaconelli]

Since the first years of his life, Riccardo has the opportunity of getting familiar with computers by using his father's laptop, and repeatedly demonstrated to his parents the fundamental importance of regular backups. He learned the art of coding at the age of 9, but then got tricked by some (probably communists) friends into using an anarchist thing called "Free Software", that will completely change his vision of computing. His first contribution to KDE happened at the age of 13. Now KDE is his main area of interest and contribution in the FLOSS world, and his contributions cover almost all the fields.
