Future of the KDE Development Model

Speaker: Sebastian Kügler and Dirk Müller

During the past years, the landscape of code collaboration in the Free Software world has changed considerably. KDE has traditionally used a centralised system to manage source code for the community. Distributed systems are becoming more widely used and provide exceptional flexibility for communities such as KDE. At the same time, the requirements of KDE's release cycle and the scalability of the development model shift away from each other.

"The Future of the KDE Development Model" outlines the new challenges and proposes a way for KDE to adopt new this new technology and collaboration model. The presentation combines social and organisational aspects and drafts a way for leading KDE into the future by means of 'updating the development model'. The purpose of the talk is to create awareness for recent developments in this field, and to foster discussion how KDE could benefit from them.
